The masterclasses are aimed at aspiring musicians who wish to deepen their knowledge of Arnold Schönberg's works and the Second Viennese School.

Yes, in this case, please apply under the category "Chamber Music". Since the concept of the Masterclasses is strongly based on collaborative music-making, we will do our best to match you with other participants and form an ensemble based on your repertoire.
In addition, rehearsal accompaniment (répétiteur) will be available to you during the Masterclasses.
A list of selected works by Arnold Schönberg can be found here. This list serves as a guideline for the video recordings as well as for the later selection of repertoire for the masterclasses.
Yes, the works by Schönberg submitted as part of the video application can also be studied during the masterclasses. The focus of the instruction is on the in-depth study of Arnold Schönberg’s compositions.
There are no course fees for selected participants. Accommodation and tickets for public transport in Vienna and Mödling are paid for. Participants need to provide for their travel expenses and meals.
Videos must be uploaded to an online platform (such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) and linked in the application form. Recordings must be created within 12 months of submission. No professional recording quality required. No digital enhancements or audio manipulations are allowed. Each piece may be recorded as a separate video. The applicant must be clearly visible in the video. There is no dress code.
Unfortunately, late arrivals or early departures are not intended.

Elegant concert attire is required. Please note that appropriate clothing is also expected when attending concerts in Vienna.
Accommodation is provided for all participants for the duration of the masterclasses.

The following insurances are recommended for your stay in Austria:
- Travel cancellation insurance
- (International) Health insurance
- Instrument insurance
- Baggage insurance
- Liability insurance.
Please research your options, as the International Arnold Schönberg Masterclasses do not provide insurance.
Please check with your embassy whether a visa is required. Participants are responsible for obtaining any necessary visas for Austria in time. We can provide an invitation letter for visa applications, if needed.

Yes, but accommodation for any extra days must be arranged and paid on your own.
The Masterclasses will provide you with a public transport ticket valid for Vienna and Mödling for the entire duration of the event. You will receive the ticket via email shortly before your arrival, so you can already use it for your journey from the airport or the train station into the city.
The International Arnold Schönberg Masterclasses take place at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna and the Schönberg-House in Mödling.
The Arnold Schönberg Center is a cultural institution in Vienna. It is the venue for the International Arnold Schönberg Masterclasses. Some of the courses also take place in the Schönberg-House in Mödling.
The entrance to the Arnold Schönberg Center is located at Zaunergasse 1–3. Enter the building under the grey Arnold Schönberg Center sign and take the left elevator to the 1st floor. The entrance door will be on your right-hand side.
The S-Bahn lines S7 and REX 7 take you from Vienna Airport to Rennweg Station. From there, take tram line 71 in the direction of “Schottenring” or “Schwarzenbergplatz” and get off at the “Am Heumarkt” stop (2 stops).
Cross the street to the right of the tram tracks (away from the fountain). The entrance to the Arnold Schönberg Center is located at Zaunergasse 1–3. Enter the building under the grey Arnold Schönberg Center sign and take the left elevator to the 1st floor. The entrance door will be on your right-hand side.

Take tram line D in the direction of “Nußdorf” and get off at the “Gußhausstraße” stop (4 stops).
Cross the street to the right of the tram tracks and walk across the square with the fountain (Schwarzenbergplatz). You will see a freestanding corner building with a dome and a green gate (Palais Fanto). The entrance to the Arnold Schönberg Center is at Zaunergasse 1–3. Enter the building under the grey Arnold Schönberg Center sign and take the left elevator to the 1st floor. The entrance door will be on your right-hand side.
