Correspondence documents and letters exchanged between Arnold Schönberg and the music publishers C. F. Peters and C. F. Peters Corporation, edited by Florian Giering, can now be viewed online.
The correspondence exchanged by Arnold Schönberg and the music publishers C. F. Peters (Leipzig) and C. F. Peters Corporation (New York) comprises roughly 170 documents written between 1911 and 1951. In the years before 1933, these focused on the Five Pieces for Orchestra, op. 16 – their acceptance for publication, production, and publishing – and also discussed the processing methods adopted by Anton Webern and Felix Greissle, preparation of performances, and the new edition of the work in 1922. After Arnold Schönberg emigrated to the United States, the letters continued in a spirit of friendship and ended with the “forced Aryanization” of this Jewish family business in 1939.
The correspondence edition was produced with the help of the existing digital infrastructure and advice from the project team for the FWF project “The Correspondence between Arnold Schönberg and his Publishers Universal-Edition and Verlag Dreililien. A Critical Hybrid Edition.”
