Digital edition of Schönberg’s correspondence – Universal-Edition – Dreililien

This edition of letters sheds light on the relationship between Arnold Schönberg and his publishers, and his working environment. The correspondence exchanged between the composer and the music publishers Dreililien and Universal-Edition comprises 1,750 written documents spanning four decades.

In the second phase of publication, the edition presents commentaries and also an index of events mentioned in the correspondence. The edited letters are contextualized by means of editorial comments and references to digital sources from the archives at the Arnold Schönberg Center as well as international collections.

The edition project, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), is being carried out at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in cooperation with the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna and the State Institute for Music Research of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin.
