The Ensemble Wiener Collage presents its eleventh Christmas concert as a new oratorio by eight composers, culminating in Schönberg’s “Christmas Music.” The literary basis is the Protoevangelium of James, a non-biblical text that places Mary as a human being at its centre: a young woman caught between hope and social pressure, her pregnancy not of her own choosing, and an existence shaped by external expectations. The semi-staged concert re-examines the miracle of Christmas from a fresh perspective, intertwining themes of seeking shelter, precariousness, femininity, and motherhood.
