Johannes Maria Staud, born 1974 in Innsbruck, began composing while still at elementary school. He later studied with Iván Eröd (harmony and counterpoint), Michael Jarrell (composition) and Dieter Kaufmann (electroacoustic composition) at Vienna’s Academy of Music, and he also studied philosophy and musicology at the University of Vienna. He is one of the present-day composers whose works are most frequently played, and his compositions – like those of Arnold Schönberg – are published by Universal Edition in Vienna.
