The saxophone only gradually became established on the concert stage – Arnold Schönberg used it just once in the late 1920s, in his entertaining Zeitoper “From Today till Tomorrow.” The instrument is mainly linked to popular genres, as impressively evidenced by the jazz sounds in Erwin Schulhoff’s Hot-Sonate. In his recital with pianist Ioan Dimitriu, Marko Dzomba also makes use of arrangements – Alban Berg’s much-performed pieces for clarinet are given an attractive, autonomous tone quality in a new version.
