In 1898 Vilma von Webenau started taking lessons with Arnold Schönberg; she was his first pupil. Her pieces for string quartet are lyrical impressions that form a link between poetry and music, inspired by summer flowers. This connection is explored from a different perspective in the songs by Hugo Wolf and Erwin Schulhoff. The first string quartet by Schönberg’s friend and brother-in-law Alexander Zemlinsky concludes the concert with a large, almost symphonic arc.
The concert will be broadcast on December 9, 2021 at 7.30 p.m. on the program "Das Ö1 Konzert."
