Max Deutsch, who studied with Arnold Schönberg in Mödling in the 1920s, was one of the most important advocates of the Second Viennese School in France. He was a Professor of Composition at the École normale de musique de Paris, where his students included Luis de Pablo, whose piece “Cesuras” will be performed in this concert, as well as Amaury du Closel, who championed Deutsch throughout his life. At Amaury du Closel’s request, the manuscript of the chamber music work “Liliom” will become part of the Arnold Schönberg Center’s collection.
