The seminar focuses on Arnold Schönberg’s work and influence within the cultural environment of early 20^th century Vienna. In addition to analyzing compositions and reading theoretical writings of the Viennese School, we will particularly focus in on the fin de siècle zeitgeist and examine the genealogy and meaning of the term “musical modernism.”
