We tend to associate the genre of the serenade with light music – for instance, a serenade played at the banquet of a wealthy doyen. Arnold Schönberg incorporates this idea and moves beyond it at the same time: in his Serenade, op. 24, he combines the modern compositional style of using tone rows with traditional forms and popular characters. Can such an experimental approach still inspire us today? Viola Falb and Lukas Haselböck answer this question with their new compositions.

5.30 pm: Curator’s tour with Therese Muxeneder
through the exhibition “Listening to Love with Schönberg” (reservation required)
