The works of Arnold Schönberg have always been a natural companion for the doyen of Austrian music. His Concertino, composed especially for the Ensemble Wiener Collage, uses complicated serial techniques as the basis of a decidedly vital, accessible work. Schönberg’s cheerful Serenade is also lively. The piece was written on the composer’s way to the twelve-tone method and takes up the tradition of Austrian open-air music.
