»The songs and dances [of] the peoples are often of overwhelming depth of expression [...]. They are truly beautiful and one can only admire them.« (Arnold Schönberg: Symphonies from Folk Songs) Some time ago, the AUREUM Saxophone Quartet began to devote itself to genuine folk music together with folk music researcher and violinist Rudi Pietsch, who died much too early in 2020. This resulted in a program that outlines intersections between the two genres and shows how art music can be inspired by the folk music idiom.
