Else Lasker-Schüler (1869-1945)--poetess, born in Jerusalem. She was associated with the Berlin intellectuals of the 1900s, including the writer Franz Werfel and the painter Franz Marc. She knew Schoenberg in Vienna, and visited him in Berlin. She left Vienna in 1933, and eventually settled in Palestine in 1937. She wrote Schoenberg in 1937 asking if he would write music for a book of hers that was being adapted for film. Schoenberg agreed, but the project never came to fruition.
