On the occasion of Arnold Schönberg's 150th birthday, master classes will take place at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna from June 4 to 14, 2024, in the disciplines of Voice, Voice and Piano Duo, Piano Solo and Chamber Music. The master classes are supported by Avenir Foundation Grants of the Arnold Schönberg Center, Vienna/Austria.

Students as well as professional musicians will study the works of Arnold Schönberg with internationally renowned experts and have the opportunity to perform them in a public concert at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna/Austria on June 14, 2024. As part of the master classes, an exciting program centered around Viennese cultural life will be organized for all participants.

I. Grant
Tuition fees, the organized cultural program, as well as accommodation, will be covered by the Arnold Schönberg Center and are free of charge for all selected participants.
Application for Travel Cost Reimbursement (up to 50%):
If coverage of travel costs is not possible through the applicant's own university or educational institution, or any other sponsors, an application for travel cost reimbursement can be submitted to the Arnold Schönberg Center. The requirement is to provide a formal application letter and a rejection letter from the respective institution/sponsor.

II. Audition: Deadline and Application
Musicians and ensembles must apply to the Arnold Schönberg Center with video recordings and all documents by February 1, 2024 (see III. Application Documents). The recordings have to be uploaded on YouTube or similar online platforms, and included as a link in the application. The recordings must not be older than one year. Please also add an artistic curriculum vitae in the application.

Voice
Lieder and/or other vocal works by Arnold Schönberg
Alternatively: works by Arnold Schönberg and one additional work from the Viennese School
Lieder may also be selected from various song cycles or collections.
Total duration: approx. 20 min. (works by Arnold Schönberg: minimum of12 min.)

Voice and Piano Duo
Lieder by Arnold Schönberg
Alternatively: Lieder by Arnold Schönberg and one additional work from the Viennese School
Lieder may also be selected from various song cycles or collections.
Total duration: approx. 20 min. (works by Arnold Schönberg: minimum of12 min.)

Piano Solo
1 - 2 works by Arnold Schönberg (all movements)
Alternatively: Selection of movements from one work by Arnold Schönberg and one additional work free of choice.
Total duration: approx. 20 min.

Chamber Music (max. 6 members)
1 chamber music work by Arnold Schönberg (all movements)
Alternatively: Selection of movements from a chamber music work by Arnold Schönberg and one additional chamber music work from the Viennese School.
Total duration: approx. 25 min.

The list serves as guideline for the video recordings as well as the later selection of works. During the master classes, only works by Arnold Schönberg will be worked on. The works by Schönberg that have been recorded for the video application can also be studied during the master classes.

Since in addition to the intense teaching and rehearsal sessions, the master classes also include a varied cultural program, all participants are required to stay for the entire period (June 4 to 14, 2024).
